Some men do their best work when no one is watching and their worst work when everyone is.
It is worth noticing which one you are. A man who only performs well for an audience has quietly made the audience the point — the work has become a way of being seen doing the work, which is a different activity entirely, even if it looks similar from across the room.
We make a small number of things, slowly, and most of the decisions that go into them happen where no customer will ever see — a seam re-cut for the third time, a dye lot rejected because the tone was a shade off, a size run delayed because the fit wasn't right yet. None of that will show up in a photograph. We do it anyway.
This is the actual test of whether you care about a thing or only about being seen caring. Would you still do it exactly this way if nobody found out? We built the brand to answer that question honestly, and we intend to keep answering it the same way as we grow, which is the part that is actually difficult.
